Family Adventures in the Garden
Updated: Dec 15, 2020
O'Casey's Boutique Inn is comfortably close to one of San Antonio's greatest treasures: The San Antonio Botanical Garden. With 38 acres of gardens, and conservatories, there's plenty of space to comfortably physical-distance. The fall weather in San Antonio, is the perfect time to experience the San Antonio Botanical Garden, and staying in historic O'Casey's, is just the way to do it.
Start the morning with delicious breakfast tacos, and get ready for some serious exploring.
The SABOT "Family Adventure Garden" is a 2.5 acre space, solely devoted to families: It is designed to showcase all of Texas' various landscapes, and native plants, while also providing space for your children to climb, tumble, create, and learn.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, there's opportunity for 7-12 year olds to participate in the After School in the Garden program: Each week features a new nature oriented lesson, and project, within the gardens.
Monthly "Family Flashlight Nights" occur between 6pm-8:30pm and include a flashlight tour of the most popular acres in the garden, a glow light maze, family friendly activity, and DIY s'mores, for purchase. It'll be an evening under the big, and bright stars of Texas, that your family won't be able to shake from memory.
If daytime is your preference, try the family friendly "Texas Bird Walking Tour", and learn about native Texas birds, as well as migratory birds, how they live, and where they go.
The SABOT features everything from the simple rose garden to a conservatory of more exotic plants, in includes a Japanese Garden (that was designed in Japan!), and even leaves space for a plot of drought resistant landscape, and practical culinary gardens.
It will take at least one full day to visit the entire San Antonio Botanical Garden; so plan to stop at Jardin in the 1896 Sullivan Carriage House, for a fresh and delicious late-lunch, or early-dinner.
Let us know what you learned, when you arrive back in your cozy room, at O'Casey's Boutique Inn.
